After graduating from Miami University in Ohio, she worked on the Alan Cranston's campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in 1983, which was ultimately unsuccessful. She was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives when she was 28 years old. In 1992, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives for one term before being defeated in her reelection. Cantwell then moved to the private sector to work for RealNetworks, an internet media company, where she became a multi-millionaire. Get active now. There's lots of things if they're young they can get active: they can get active in a campaign, they can get active in a policy issue, they can get active in something in their community. I got started working to help build a library in the community that I lived in, and then ran for the legislature.
